Loved reading this and as I was reading, it reminded me of why I felt so comfortable and open and relaxed to share during my families therapy sessions because our lead therapist came from Indian/mixed race background and totally understood the nuances of keeping things the family and cultural dynamics in a way we didn’t have to explain which was really freeing for all of us. I’ve never reflected on that before so thank you for your writing! Xxx

Absolutely - representation matters right? You don't realise it sometimes. I'm glad you had that experience. xxx

I resonate with this but from differing points. Firstly as a woman, which is why I now run women’s circles and secondly as a person of colour. I sought out a black female therapist who had somatic leanings, when I decided to engage with therapy. It made a huge difference in the amount of myself I brought into the room. I’d never say integrated spaces cannot serve us because they do and they are required - all types. However there are times when we need to expand and undo the top button (so to speak) in a space where we are more alike than not. This is a nice write up Meryl. Good luck with this cohort and the beautiful journey! ✨✨✨✨
